Introduction to Boxmaking: Solander Box

Learn to make by hand a box with a hinged lid perfect for storing, archiving and presenting books, prints and anything that needs safe-keeping.

Originally invented for use at the British Museum to catalogue their natural history collection, the Solander (or “clamshell”) box or case has become a popular box construction with a wide array of uses.

Suitable for all abilities, including beginners, with all materials and tools provided. Upon completion of the workshop, participants will leave with their own hand-made Solander box and the skills to make more independently.
