Join us at the LCBA Studio for a one-day Introduction to Linocut Printing with James Brown, a designer, illustrator and printmaker based in London specialising in linocuts (clients include The Poetry Society, The Guardian, The East End Trades Guild, Cath Kidston, and The V&A).
Linocut printing was pioneered in the early 20th Century and has since become a popular relief printing method for artists. This workshop is perfect for people with no prior experience to learn how to plan, prepare and print from lino from start to finish.
Workshop participants will have an introduction to the tools and inks used in linocut printing, and will be introduced to the presses in the studio. Participants will learn hand carving in lino, how to mount the block for printing, selecting paper stock, choosing and mixing inks and how to set up the press.
This is an ideal workshop for people to learn the skills to create their own editioned prints, artist books, and posters. A versatile material and method, linocuts can be easily printed by hand or a simple press at home.
Those who have completed the workshop will have the opportunity to become Studio Members or Studio Pass holders to work independently, with occasional guidance, on their own projects at the LCBA studio.
