The Everyday Press was founded by Arnaud Desjardin in 2007 as a continuation of his activities as an artist, art bookseller and as someone interested in the history of artists' books. Its first publication was by artist Ian Whittlesea, a transimile of Yves Klein's Les Fondements du Judo. Whittlesea and Desjardin have continued to work together, producing a series of books that have been collectively described as 'instruction manuals for transcendental exercise’. These books draw on the intertwined histories of modernism and mysticism and use as their inspiration the printed matter of esoteric traditions that believe revelation comes from control of breath and body.
This exhibition brings together original source material for the books, including drawings, objects and documents, and marks the publication of The Rosicrucian Papers of Sissarrad G. Balyan, which records one man's correspondence with the AMORC Rosicrucians of California.
