The Future Fund is a bold new campaign to find and secure a permanent home for LCBA. With our current lease ending in 2029, we have a rare opportunity to nearly double our capacity, expand our programming, and build a new cultural destination in London dedicated to books and their makers.

  • The First of Its Kind in the UK

We started LCBA in 2012 with an idea of providing affordable workspaces, bringing together facilities for printing, binding and publishing. Since then, we have grown into an internationally recognised, artist-run organisation at the intersection of art, publishing, design and craft.

Our pioneering education and training programme has set new standards; and we are now widely regarded as a leading organisation in the teaching and preservation of the heritage crafts of bookbinding and letterpress printing.

  • What We’ve Achieved So Far

A community of 500+ studio members

Over 800 workshops, exhibitions & events with partners including V&A, Barbican, Penguin, Faber, UAL, RCA, Toast, and many others

More than 20,000 visitors to our studios in Bow, Tower Hamlets

More than 20 residencies for emerging artists, craftspeople, designers, and publishers. Since 2018 we have partnered with the Wynkyn de Worde Society to offer residencies to UK-based graphic design graduates.

Two successful crowdfunding campaigns in 2017 and 2021 to improve and expand our studios, raising a total of over £66,000

  • Independent but Never Alone

LCBA receives little to no external funding. Our operations are sustained by workshop and event income; studio membership fees; and retail sales.

With your support, the FUTURE FUND will allow us to take the next big step in planning for our future—while making sure not to lose focus of our commitments to our community and our mission.

With more than 800 workshops for the public since 2012, LCBA has become a leading organisation in the teaching and preserva tion of the heritage crafts of bookbinding and letterpress printing.

We’ve always prided ourselves on our independence, but independence has never meant that we go at it alone.

LCBA continues to rely on the generosity and trust of friends and strangers—kindred spirits—who share our vision.

Your support will allow us to invest in people, equipment, and programming; and begin the hard work for planning and building the future of LCBA.
