A special week-long course with guest instructor Johanna Maierski of Colorama, the legendary project space, publisher, and Riso-studio in Berlin.

The Riso (Ri-sō), or Risograph Duplicator, is a low cost and environmentally friendly printing process that can produce results that are rich in colour and texture and a bit analogue due to its unique mechanics. A printing process particularly suited for fliers, posters, comics and zines.

Participants will meet for five consecutive days at the LCBA studio and learn the skills to independently operate a Riso duplicator and produce editions of their own work.

Suitable for beginners and those who want to refine their skills. Participants are required to bring along a laptop with Photoshop and a rough idea for a final project (a 4-colour print no larger than A3 [297x420mm]) in an edition of 25.

The Week:
Day 1: Analogue printing and experimentation
Day 2: Digital layering and colouring
Day 3: Colour-separating photos and original artwork
Day 4: Guided file preparation of individual projects and experimentation
Day 5: Guided final printing of individual projects

On completion of the workshop participants will take home editioned prints of their chosen artwork, and have the opportunity to become Studio Pass holders to work independently on their own projects using the Riso along with other tools and equipment at the LCBA studio.
