"My connection to Manchester and The Peterloo Massacre is personal, through birth and family history. Both sides of my family lived there in 1819 and many worked in the textile industry.
The imagery in the book comes from my personal archive: old lace and textiles, the faded backs of photographs and funeral cards. None are in their original state and all have been reworked, but hopefully retain their sense of time and place.
I researched, edited and re-wrote the text and while every effort was made to assure historical accuracy I make no apologies for my historical bias: to commemorate the significant role played by the radical women of Manchester at Peterloo.
