Echoes from a Lost Playground focuses on the Pärnu KEK construction company kindergarten playground by the Estonian artist and designer Sirje Runge. It archives the now lost playground and attempts to archive the history of an important piece of Estonian design history that is at risk of being forgotten or under-represented. Through dialogue with the artist and other local historians and curators: Andres Kurg and Sandra Nuut, On Public Apparatus was able to gather a range of material about the project, some of which was previously undocumented.
The envelope contains a full colour A2 poster exhibiting visual material, a reader containing an essay by Nutt that discuss the history of the playground and a set of alternative playground instructions that speak to the wider body of research.
On Public Apparatus is a new publishing project that investigates the role of design in relation to the built environment. Each issue draws attention to a piece of apparatus and unpacks the wider themes that it may project.
