Printing by Letterpress is part of an occasional exhibition series drawing on material from the LCBA library and archive — a unique collection of more than 800 books about books, printing, art, design and related subjects.

On display are materials tracing the process of letterpress printing, a method of relief printing dating back over 500 years. Letterpress has always played a leading role at LCBA, home to eight presses and an expansive collection of wood and metal type, borders, and ornaments. The exhibition takes an improvisational approach, bringing together work by friends and members of LCBA alongside historical documents and key tools and sundries. It's a process rooted in its past, kept alive through practice and experimentation in the studio, and still full of surprises.
