The Riso (Ri-sō), or Risograph Duplicator, is a low cost and environmentally friendly printing process that can produce results that are rich in colour and texture and a bit analogue due to its unique mechanics.

A Riso duplicator looks much like a photocopier but works in a similar way to screen printing. Using either the scan-bed or printing from a digital file, the machine makes a ‘master’ stencil of the artwork. Ink is then pushed through the stencil onto the paper as the drum rotates, with additional colours added by overprinting.

A printing process particularly suited for fliers, posters, comics and zines.

During this workshop participants will learn how to prepare work and print using a Riso printer from start to finish. We will work independently and as a group to produce a fold-out, double-sided print utilising both manual and digital artwork production techniques.

Suitable for beginners with all materials and tools provided.

On completion of the workshop participants will have the opportunity to become Studio Pass holders to work independently, with occasional guidance, on their own projects using the Riso along with other tools and equipment at the LCBA studio.
